When first discovered in 1817, selenium was thought to be a poison. In 1957 it was accepted as an essential trace mineral. And now it has become a “hidden superstar” among nutrients. And selenium (like most healthy things) is something that many of us are not getting enough of … most Americans get less than half of the recommended dose of 200 micrograms a day, according to Life Extension Foundation’s Disease Prevention and Treatment.
You probably first learned about selenium in high school chemistry class, but did you know that it is just about the cheapest “anti-cancer” pill you can buy? Selenium was initially used in conventional medicine as a treatment for dandruff, but our comprehension of the mineral has dramatically increased over the past half century years. It is an essential component of a powerful antioxidant (glutathione peroxidase) manufactured by the body which defends specifically against peroxides, a type of free radical that attacks fats. Like other antioxidants, glutathione peroxidase also reduces the risk of developing cancer and heart diseases and stimulates the immune system’s response to infections.
In the 1970’s, studies by Dr. Gerhard Schrauzer produced a 70% reduction in breast cancer tumors by adding trace amounts of selenium to the diet. Then, a study of over 1000 healthy men (published in May 2004 Journal of the National Cancer Institute) showed that men with high blood levels of selenium had a 50% reduction in prostate cancer rates. The most important blind study on selenium and cancer was a double-blind intervention trial conducted by Dr. L.C. Clark (and colleagues) at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. When all the results were tabulated, it became clear that the selenium-treated group developed almost 66% fewer prostate cancers, 50% fewer colorectal cancers, and about 40% fewer lung cancers as compared with the placebo group.
Research shows selenium (especially when used in conjunction with vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene) works to block many chemical reactions that create free radicals in the body. Remember, free radicals can damage our cellular DNA, which eventually can lead to degenerative diseases like cancer. Selenium also helps to prevent damaged DNA molecules from reproducing and proliferating, a process called mitosis. In other words, selenium acts to prevent tumors from developing. “It contributes towards the death of cancerous and pre-cancer cells. Their death appears to occur before they replicate, thus helping stop cancer before it gets started,” according to Dr. James Howenstine.
Selenium research over the past 20 years has focused heavily on a novel form of selenium: methylselenocysteine (MSC). A relatively simple organic selenium compound, MSC is formed naturally in various plants, including garlic, broccoli, wild leeks, and onions grown on high selenium soil. MSC is easily converted to methylselenol by an enzyme called “beta-lyase” which is widely distributed in the body.
According to Dr. Daniel Medina (Baylor College of Medicine Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology), methylselenol has been shown to be an effective anti-cancer form of selenium that kills cancer cells through apoptosis, which is programmed cell death. (“Se-methylselenocysteine: A new compound for chemoprevention of breast cancer,” Nutrition & Cancer 2001, 40:12-17) Methylselenol is also known to inhibit angiogenesis (creation of new blood vessels) in beginning cancer tumors and represents the safest and most effective anti-cancer form of selenium available today.
Selenium supplement intake, even in the form of safe MSC, should be limited to 200 to 400 mcg daily for maximum safety. Some of the best natural sources of selenium are Brazil nuts, garlic, broccoli sprouts, and Brussels sprouts, all of which contain selenium in the form of MSC.
Selenium not only helps improve the immune system against cancer cells, but it also fights bacterial and viral infections as well as herpes virus, cold sores, and shingles. It’s interesting to note that people who live in selenium-poor regions of the world suffer from dramatically increased rates of cancer, infections, and inflammatory diseases.
DMSO (“dimethyl sulfoxide”) is a byproduct of wood pulp that is completely safe for humans and has been proven extremely effective in alternative cancer care. Originally discovered in Russia in 1866, DMSO’s therapeutic benefits were originally noted in the 20th century by Dr. Stanley Jacob. It is FDA-approved as a treatment for bladder inflammation and to reduce brain swelling, but research has found it remarkably effective in reducing the size of malignant tumors and bringing cancer patients into remission.
DMSO works in four ways to fight cancer.
**WARNING** You must be EXTREMELY careful when handling DMSO as it will “attach” to whatever substance it comes into contact with and transport the substance through your skin into your body.
Camelot Cancer Care is one of a very few dedicated DMSO clinics operating in the United States which accepts cancer patients. Here is a LINK to their website.
Scientists are observing with increasing alarm that some very common hormone-mimicking chemicals can have grotesque effects.
A widely used herbicide acts as a female hormone and feminizes male animals in the wild. Thus male frogs can have female organs, and some male fish actually produce eggs. In a Florida lake contaminated by these chemicals, male alligators have tiny penises.
These days there is also growing evidence linking this class of chemicals to problems in humans. These include breast cancer, infertility, low sperm counts, genital deformities, early menstruation and even diabetes and obesity.
Philip Landrigan, a professor of pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, says that a congenital defect called hypospadias — a misplacement of the urethra — is now twice as common among newborn boys as it used to be. He suspects endocrine disruptors, so called because they can wreak havoc with the endocrine system that governs hormones.
Endocrine disruptors are everywhere. They’re in thermal receipts that come out of gas pumps and A.T.M.’s. They’re in canned foods, cosmetics, plastics and food packaging. Test your blood or urine, and you’ll surely find them there, as well as in human breast milk and in cord blood of newborn babies.
In this campaign year, we are bound to hear endless complaints about excessive government regulation. But here’s an area where scientists are increasingly critical of our government for its failure to tackle Big Chem and regulate endocrine disruptors adequately.
Last month, the Endocrine Society, the leading association of hormone experts, scolded the Food and Drug Administration for its failure to ban bisphenol-A, a common endocrine disruptor known as BPA, from food packaging. Last year, eight medical organizations representing genetics, gynecology, urology and other fields made a joint call in Science magazine for tighter regulation of endocrine disruptors.
Shouldn’t our government be as vigilant about threats in our grocery stores as in the mountains of Afghanistan?
Researchers warn that endocrine disruptors can trigger hormonal changes in the body that may not show up for decades. One called DES, a synthetic form of estrogen, was once routinely given to pregnant women to prevent miscarriage or morning sickness, and it did little harm to the women themselves. But it turned out to cause vaginal cancer and breast cancer decades later in their daughters, so it is now banned.
Scientists have long known the tiniest variations in hormone levels influence fetal development. For example, a female twin is very slightly masculinized if the other twin is a male, because she is exposed to some of his hormones. Studies have found that these female twins, on average, end up slightly more aggressive and sensation-seeking as adults but have lower rates of eating disorders.
Now experts worry that endocrine disruptors have similar effects, acting as hormones and swamping the delicate balance for fetuses in particular. The latest initiative by scholars is a landmark 78-page analysis to be published next month in Endocrine Reviews, the leading publication in the field.
“Fundamental changes in chemical testing and safety determination are needed to protect human health,” the analysis declares. Linda S. Birnbaum, the nation’s chief environmental scientist and toxicologist, endorsed the findings.
The article was written by a 12-member panel that spent three years reviewing the evidence. It concluded that the nation’s safety system for endocrine disruptors is broken.
“For several well-studied endocrine disruptors, I think it is fair to say that we have enough data to conclude that these chemicals are not safe for human populations,” said Laura Vandenberg, a Tufts University developmental biologist who was the lead writer for the panel.
Worrying new research on the long-term effects of these chemicals is constantly being published. One study found that pregnant women who have higher levels of a common endocrine disruptor, PFOA, are three times as likely to have daughters who grow up to be overweight. Yet PFOA is unavoidable. It is in everything from microwave popcorn bags to carpet-cleaning solutions.
Yes, there are uncertainties. But the scientists who know endocrine disruptors best overwhelmingly are already taking steps to protect their families. John Peterson Myers, chief scientist at Environmental Health Sciences and a co-author of the new analysis, said that his family had stopped buying canned food.
“We don’t microwave in plastic,” he added. “We don’t use pesticides in our house. I refuse receipts whenever I can. My default request at the A.T.M., known to my bank, is ‘no receipt.’ I never ask for a receipt from a gas station.”
I’m taking my cue from the experts, and I wish the Obama administration would as well.
In 2011 my wonderful Norwegian husband of 28 years fell seriously ill 2 days after coming home from a family holiday in Spain, just 2 weeks after our eldest daughter´s wedding. He was 55 years old. The doctors struggled to understand what was wrong but eventually believed he had atypical Legionella, no antibiotics were working on him & his body wasn´t making white blood cells (killer cells) to fight the infection. He nearly died 3 times between July and Christmas. His heart was pumping irregularly, struggling to cope, and both his arms went green with infection reacting to all the strongest IV antibiotics available, being put into both arms. Once it just went 3 hours from feeling tired and ill to not being able to breathe, getting blood poisoning, going into septic shock & being resuscitated.
The doctors then thought he had burnt out Sarcoidosis in his lungs, being operated for a biopsy twice, nearly dying from blood poisoning after the second biopsy which was on his lungs. Two days before Christmas with our 7 children, they told him they thought it was terminal lung cancer with just 3 months to live. Two weeks later he had PET (CAT) scan, saying they would contact him in a weeks’ time. But they called 8am the next morning telling him to get to his doctor before 9am. They thought he had Lymphoma (lymph cancer) with metastasis to the bones and head.
I have lost count of how many ambulances I have called to our house in South Norway with the siren going. Just I hear one now makes me break down and cry. Every visit to the hospital specialist was a picture of doom and gloom, and my poor husband suffering so much pain and lack of breath. He was eventually diagnosed correctly with Sarcoidosis stage 4. He has it very badly in addition to having Osteoarthritis, having had 2 back operations and 2 hip replacements. My husband is an ex Kickboxing Norwegian Champion, 3rd place in the European Championships, a kickboxing trainer at his own club which he started (Veitvet Club) in Oslo for 11 years. He also is a black belt judge and now a doctor at boxing and kick boxing events. He is a medical doctor, always been health conscious, a non- smoker, minimal alcohol intake, and exercising regularly. A great husband to me his English wife and father to 7 and now a granddad!
I strongly believe in God and feel it would be to underestimate God not to believe he has created a cure with in his nature. With an army of prayers for him I searched for solutions. I wrote on Christmas Day to Ty Bollinger the author of the book “Cancer- Step Outside the Box” (see www.cancertruth.net). His book I had read 18 months earlier and told myself that if anything hit our family I would go natural. Ty Bollinger wrote back to me 2 days later and we mailed backwards and forwards for a few days till he put me in contact with a medical doctor in the US who has also studied natural medicine. Friends and family and strangers donated the money it cost to have this wonderful doctor’s advice. He put my husband on a natural herbal mixture called LifeOne. This product is 100 times stronger than any other antioxidant and boosts the immune system so much that the body takes care of almost any serious disease.
I also put my husband on a strict diet of organic vegan food only. It took a month for us to get LifeOne through the customs, but on just the new diet he started to recover from day 4, breathing easier, feeling stronger and his head felt clearer. My husband was bed ridden at Christmas (since July) and was not able to have any guests, he couldn´t take any noise, was close to death several times, and just coming down stairs exhausted him and his heart would beat irregularly.
After just a month on LifeOne, he went back to working full time in March! He is now in July and Morten is back to 90% of his old self and the results are starting to show up on X-rays! Our American doctor has said he will be free of all Sarcoidosis within 2 years on LifeOne. This is simply unheard of in traditional medicine. Norway are specialists in Sarcoidosis, but they don´t know what causes it or how to defeat it. We now all live on as much as possible organic food with lots of salad & fruit.
I have learnt so much and am shocked that my discoveries aren’t common knowledge. I thank God for healing my husband.

Strong, credible allegations of high-level criminal activity can bring down a government. When the government lacks an effective, fact-based defense, other techniques must be employed. The success of these techniques depends heavily upon a cooperative, compliant press and a mere token opposition party.
Back in the 1960s when I was born, coconut oil was believed to be the “Devil incarnate” (in liquid form) with more saturated fat than lard or butter, rendering it a “cholesterol-raising” … “heart-attack-causing” … “artery-clogging” nightmare. But is this truth or fiction?
We’ve all heard the rhetoric about coconut oil being unhealthy due to the fact that it contains so much of the scary scary “saturated” fat. But according to Thomas Brenna (Cornell University professor) who has extensively reviewed the literature on coconut oil, a considerable part of its stigma can be traced to one major factor: “Most of the studies involving coconut oil were done with partially hydrogenated coconut oil … Virgin coconut oil, which has not been chemically treated, is a different thing in terms of a health risk perspective….” The studies did not show that saturated fat (in coconut oil) is harmful, but they indicated that *hydrogenated* coconut oil is harmful. The fact of the matter is that all hydrogenated oils are bad, since they have been chemically altered. So, keep in mind that I’m referring specifically to virgin coconut oil, NOT hydrogenated coconut oil.
In the 1950s, Ancel Keys observed that heart disease appeared to be related to hydrogenated oils (“trans-fats”), but the vegetable oil industry then tried to redirect the negative publicity by vilifying “saturated” fats (like coconut oil). Coconut oil continued to be demonized by the vegetable oil industry throughout the ensuing decades. Adding insult to injury, the soybean industry began to condemn the use of tropical oils, particularly coconut oil. Science and good health took a back seat to profits, as they have on more than one occasion…
In 1981, researchers studied populations of two Polynesian atolls, with coconut being was the chief source of caloric energy in both groups. The results (published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition) demonstrated that both populations exhibited positive vascular health. There was zero evidence that the high saturated fat intake had a harmful effect in these populations. Despite the propaganda, the truth is this that UN*saturated fats and “trans-fats” are two primary culprits in heart disease, not saturated fats. If you want proof of this, just do a search for the “French paradox.”
Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which converts in your body to monolaurin (the compound found in breast milk that strengthens a baby’s immunity). A great deal of research has established the fact that lauric acid is used by humans to destroy viruses, and various pathogenic bacteria and microbes such as yeasts, fungi, bacteria, parasites, and molds.
Coconut oil contains zero trans-fats and about 2/3 of the saturated fat in coconut oil is made up of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA’s). By contrast, most common vegetable or seed oils are comprised of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA’s), which put strain on the pancreas and the liver, are chiefly stored in the body as fat, and harden the arteries with cholesterol. The MCFA’s in coconut oil have antimicrobial properties, are beneficial to the immune system and are easily digested for quick energy.
Over 50% of Americans are overweight. One of the principal benefits of coconut oil lies in its ability to stimulate your metabolism. Back in the 1930’s, Dr. Weston Price (a dentist) traveled throughout the South Pacific, examining traditional diets and their effect on dental and overall health. He found that those eating diets high in coconut products were healthy and trim, despite the high fat concentration in their diet. Then in the 1940’s, farmers found out (by accident) that when they tried using inexpensive coconut oil to fatten their livestock, it didn’t work! Instead, coconut oil made the animals lean!
How does coconut oil help you lose weight? Apart from human breast milk, coconut oil is the only other food that contains such a high level of MCFA’s. With respect to the thyroid gland, these fatty acids ensure that this gland functions optimally by balancing its activity. One of the main “jobs” of the thyroid gland is to control metabolism. In a hypothyroid state, the thyroid gland is underactive and this causes a sluggish metabolism. Over time, this can lead to a variety of symptoms and conditions and one of them is weight gain. Coconut oil effectively speeds up a sluggish metabolism, thus promoting weight loss.
For 50 years or more, we have been “programmed” to believe that avoiding saturated fat was the “healthy” thing to do and would help us avoid cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. However, folks are becoming more aware of how coconut oil actually benefits health and longevity. Coconut oil is making a real comeback because people are beginning to understand that it’s not the “villain” of bad health. The truth is that coconut oil benefits the body in extraordinary ways and is an extremely heart-healthy choice. Many consider it a miracle food and medicine because it cleanses, heals damaged cells, promotes weight loss, and increases cardiovascular function. According to Dr. Bruce Fife, “coconut oil is the healthiest oil on earth.”
No other fruit screams “SUMMER” like a subtly crunchy, thirst-quenching, lip-smacking watermelon. That triangular wedge of bright red/white/green, sweet juiciness is enough to make the children jump for joy! Originating in Africa, watermelons were first cultivated in Egypt and were held in such regard that they were actually placed in the tombs of many Egyptian kings. All over Egypt, testaments to their legacy were recorded in hieroglyphics painted on building walls. I’m not surprised that this juicy fruit (92% water) played such an important role in Egypt and the other Mediterranean countries, since water was often in short supply in these areas, and people could rely on watermelon to quench their thirst and provide essential nutrients to keep them alive. Watermelons were brought to China around the 10th century and then to the Western Hemisphere shortly after the discovery of the New World. In Russia, where much of the commercial supply of watermelons is grown, there is a popular wine made from this tasty fruit.
Watermelon is not only great on a sweltering summer day, but this delectable thirst-quencher may also help quench the inflammation that contributes to conditions like diabetes, arthritis, asthma, atherosclerosis, and even cancer. Here’s why. Watermelon contains some of the most important antioxidants in nature, such as vitamin C (which boosts the immune system), vitamin A (which maintains eye health), and vitamin B6 (which helps brain function). Watermelon is also a very concentrated source of the carotenoid, lycopene. Well known for being abundant in tomatoes, lycopene is also present in high amounts in watermelons. As a matter of fact, watermelon has the highest concentrations of lycopene of any fresh fruit or vegetable! Lycopene has been widely studied for its antioxidant and cancer-preventing properties. In contrast to many other food phytonutrients (whose effects have only been studied in animals), lycopene has been studied extensively in humans and found to be protective against prostate, lung, colorectal, endometrial, and breast cancer. Lycopene has also been shown to help prevent heart disease.
Watermelons are also rich in electrolytes (sodium and potassium), thus this “wonder fruit” nourishes your body by not only replacing the electrolytes lost through sweat but also by hydrating your cells and maintaining the water balance within the cells. This increase in cellular function, in turn, boosts the metabolism and energizes the body. It appears that citrulline, found in watermelon, reacts with the body’s enzymes and is changed into arginine, an amino acid that benefits the heart and the circulatory and immune systems. Arginine is a precursor for nitric oxide, which helps maintain arteries, blood flow, and overall cardiovascular function. And because this “wonder food” has a higher water content and lower calorie content than many other fruits (a whole cup of watermelon contains only 48 calories), it delivers more nutrients per calorie . . . an outstanding health benefit!
I’m constantly amazed at how much JUNK the typical child eats today. I coach little league baseball, and during the games while in the dugout, it’s not uncommon for the boys to constantly eat candy (licorice, lollipops, gummi bears, jawbreakers, etc) which are all chock full of HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP! No wonder the typical child today is obese!
Do your kids a favor… get rid of the candy and sweets and help them form good eating habits that will last the rest of their lives. One good way to do this is to gradually remove the candies and desserts from your diet and begin integrating healthy substitutes.
Two amazingly refreshing summer snacks made from watermelon are watermelon smoothies and watermelon pops. For the smoothies, cut up a watermelon into small pieces and remove the seeds. Take about 2 cups of watermelon and put in the blender. Add a cup of frozen strawberries and about a half cup of yogurt or kefir (or almond milk) and a little honey (to taste). If you want it a bit thicker, add a frozen banana. Blend and enjoy. For the watermelon pops, just cut a watermelon into bite sized pieces, remove the seeds, and stick a toothpick in them and freeze. Enjoy!
Interestingly, the quantity of carotenoids from watermelon (particularly lycopene and beta-carotene) increases if the watermelon is stored at room temperature, according to a recent USDA study published in the July 2006 Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Over the past month, several articles have caught my attention concerning FRAUD being committed by Big Pharma, specifically related to vaccines. Check out these articles and you will plainly see that the rampant criminality of Big Pharma has just graduated from the realm of “conspiracy theory” to “judicial fact.”
Here are a few articles detailing the fraud, criminality and lawsuits now involving three of the “big boys” for Big Pharma (Merck, Glaxo and Pfizer):
Of course, no one is being arrested in all this, so it’s back to “business as usual” for Big Pharma.
As the Olympics begin in London, billions across the globe are caught with the dazzling lights and fanfare. If you were like many folks, as you watched the opening ceremony, you may have been scratching your head and thinking to yourself, “what on God’s green earth does this stuff have to do with sports?” But if you are like me (and understand the power of symbols), then you might still be in a state of bafflement as to the sheer “in your face” bluntness of the Olympics opening ceremony, which had all the markings of an occult ritual. Along with my colleague, Andy Scholberg, I recently published a special report entitled “The 31 Day Home Cancer Cure.” For those of you who don’t want to read a 500 page book (like “Cancer-Step Outside the Box”), this special report might just give you a synopsis of the information you need to know in order to effectively treat cancer. Check it out here.
You may have heard the slogan, “Laughter is the best medicine.” I wholeheartedly agree. So, here’s a little humor to make you smile.
OK, enough for this time. But stay tuned. My next monthly newsletter will have more great info.
And please remember that CANCER DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A DEATH SENTENCE!
Thanks and God bless.
