Did you know that America is the most obese nation in the world? That’s right. But the “good old USA” isn’t just in first place, we’re pulling a “Randy Moss” or “Terrell Owens” and showboating in the end zone after an 85 yard TD pass! Being “obese” is categorized by having a body-mass index greater than 30. The top 5 most obese nations are: #5. Greece 22% #4. Slovack Republic 22% #3. UK 23% #2. Mexico 24% and your undisputed champion and still undefeated (Drum Roll Please.) #1. USA 31%.
Yep, almost 1 in 3 Americans are considered to be OBESE! A whopping 7% increase from the closest contender is pretty impressive, and that’s coming from Mexico, a country that only eats enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and nachos! Here is a QUOTE from a friend of mine who just moved back to the USA after spending over a decade in Sweden.
He emailed me his first day back in the USA after arriving in Kentucky: “I was aware there was a problem with obesity in America for a few years, but until you are confronted face to fat face with so many huge fatties over and over in one day, well, it was very upsetting. Some people were so huge they could only waddle and limp along. So this is what 20 years of MSG and Aspartame addiction has caused, 200, 300, 400 pound people on the average. Even the people who are now considered to be average are 30 or 40 pounds overweight.” While we’re on the subject of obesity, it’s surprising to me how many people still believe that “diet” soda is a “good thing” for losing weight.
In fact, I hear people all the time proudly state that they eat healthy and “only drink diet soda.” So let’s set the record straight…There is NOTHING even remotely healthy about drinking diet soda (specifically diet sodas sweetened with Aspartame). Even though diet sodas have ZERO calories, the artificial sweeteners (like Aspartame) tend to trigger more communication in the brain’s “pleasure center” while not providing the brain with actual satisfaction. According to Sharon Fowler, obesity researcher at UT Health Science Center at San Diego, “Artificial sweeteners could have the effect of triggering appetite but unlike regular sugars they don’t deliver something that will squelch the appetite.”
Since your brain is not satisfied, the result is that you will crave MORE sugar, MORE carbs, and MORE calories. Result: Diet sodas will make you FAT! A recent 10 year study (of almost 500 diet soda drinkers) at the University of Texas showed that people who drink 2 or more diet sodas per day had a 500% greater increase in waist size (compared to non-diet soda drinkers)! So, not only is Aspartame [formerly on a Pentagon list of biowarfare chemicals – until the FDA “approved” it for consumption] an excitotoxin (i.e. it excites brain cells to death), and not only does it cause brain tumors, strokes, heart attacks, skin disorders, and seizures, but now we have proof that it actually makes you fatter!
If you absolutely must have a “soda”, try making your own with club soda and fruit juice. Rather than drinking soda or juice, our 10 year old son, Bryce, loves to make fresh lemonade sweetened with stevia. It’s very refreshing and will alkalize your body rather than making it acidic.
